Legal Question in Tax Law in Massachusetts
I was paid unemployment benefits (no with holdings) in 1997. I did not file a return that year. What is the statute of limitation in this case? I moved out of state after that.

there is no statute of limitations for failing to file or tax fraud. While you may not have intentionally committed tax fraud, it is considered fraudulent and there is no time limit for returns due prior to 2003. After 2003 the rules changed there are some time limits for tax years after 2003.
If you moved in 1998 and have not been contacted 12 years later, I would doubt they would be looking for you. They have your soc sec number from prior years and I would think they would be looking for you by now.
