Probably 3 or 4 felonies under both state and federal law. Assuming the amount is above the misdeamnor amount, You have committed felony theft both under state and federal law. Endorsing the check and cashing it is bank fraud. The theft of mail is another feloney. I am sure if I spent time thinking about it, I could think of a few more charges, but this should be sufficient to start. If the person is elderly or in a nursing home, there are a half-dozen other criminal violations that could be added under federal and state statutes.
I am not a criminal attorney, you may want to contact one rather than a tax or business attorney.
