Legal Question in Traffic Law in Massachusetts

Expired Inspection

I recently received a ticket for an expired inspection on my vehicle. The issue that I am having is that the ticket was sent to me through mail, and the name/address that the letter was addressed to was physically written, not printed as per usual official letter of the commonwealth. I was never physically stopped by the officer. The ticket also states my name, license number etc., I am assuming that the officer used his computer to reach this information. The ticket has the officers signature but not his printed name. My question is, is there a way I can defend myself if I decide to take this court. I find it somewhat improbable that the officer could of verified me personally as the driver of the vehicle without physically taking my license. Also would it be possible to defend myself by asking how could the officer of verified my inspection sticker without physically stopping me. Thank You for your help.

Re: Expired Inspection

Yes, you can defend yourself by questioning the officer's ability to i.d. you and by questioning his ability to view the inspection sticker. I would also query him as to why he did not stop the motor vehicle at that time. However, I would caution you against presenting any evidence of your own, or asserting a positive defense that you know to be factually inaccurate.
