Legal Question in Traffic Law in Massachusetts
Handicap parking
I pulled into a handicap parking space to let off a passenger. I did not turn off the motor, or get out of the car, or stay in the space. I immediately backed out of the space, whereupon I was give a $100 fine. The officer claimed that I was "parking". I went to the court to protest, and was told by a clerk that there "is" a "federal law" that says you cannot even go "one inch" into a handicap spot even if your motor is running.
Is this correct?
