Ticket for expired registration

I recently recieved a ticket for an expired registration on my vehicle. The issue that I am having is that the ticket was sent to me through mail, and the name/adress that the letter was addresed to was physically written, not printed as per usual offical letter of the state. I was never physically stopped by the officer. The ticket also states my name, license number etc., I am assuming that the officer used his computer to reach this information. The ticket has the officers signature but not his printed name. My question is, is there a way I can defend myself if I decide to take this court. I find it somewhat improbable that the officer could of verified me personally as the driver of the vehicle without physically taking my license. Also would it be possible to defend myself by asking how could the officer of verified my inspection sticker without physically stopping me. Thank You for your help.

There are some obvious defenses to your case. However, even if you were to beat that charge, the Commonwealth could bring charges for allowing someone to operate your unregistered vehicle. If you have no previous record, the matter is most likely to be dismissed on court cost if you can show that the car is now validly registered or has been taken off of the road.
