Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Massachusetts

My brother and I have inherited in a will a sum of stocks from a parent who passed away. They are to be split down the middle. He wants to retain his portion, I want to sell mine. Is there a way to seperate the stocks easily, or would it be simpler to sell them, then quickly get him the funds so he can re-invest in the same stock, thus in-effect, retaining his share.

Even if the second option would be easier, I am still curious if stocks can be split like that.

You can go to a broker and have the stocks split between you or deal with the company who issued the stock as long as you have whole shares.
