Is surving husband responsible for medical bills of deceased spouse (Bill is her name) in state of massachusetts?

Generally the answer is no, although her estate would be liable. However, there was a recent collection case in which a Nursing Home was permitted to collect its bills from the spouse under an old statute which makes spouses responsible for necessities provided to a spouse.
