Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Massachusetts

Holding of estate funds

Can an attorney hold $5,000 back on an individual - who was left monies in a will (for 5 years)? Thank you for your help. The person who was left the monies lives in Ireland and is in her 80's. Lawyer does not answer telephone calls. Is this legal?

Re: Holding of estate funds

Whether it is legal or not depends on the status of the estate. Some estates take years and years to be settled, and sometimes funds will be reserved until all taxes and debts are paid and settled. If there is some concern, you should retain an attorney to review the estate.
