can an individual have more than one durable power of attorney - for example, one for one asset and another for other assets

I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish. You may be able to accomplish what you want through making a few limited powers.

I see now reason why not. You would be creating a limited power of attorney that specifically addresses one asset/property or form of asset/property.
