living relatives
In Massachusetts, if the stepchildren are the only ones listed in the will, would a lawyer contact blood relatives RE: the will even if they were not intended to receive anything?

In order to file a will for probate, you have to obtain the consent of all heirs, which includes heirs at law (who would inherit if there was no will), or it is a contested will, requiring a hearing and testimony about the will. Notice by publication is also required, although that is mainly to give creditors notice of the probate of the estate.
