The answer is "it depends."Massachusetts has a voluntary administration procedure where the total amount of assets that pass through probate are less than $15,000.

Some small estates can be enormous messes, and some larger estates can be very easy to manage with a modest amount of attorney assistance. An experienced probate attorney can make sure that the paperwork is properly prepared and advise the executor or administrator on how to do their jobs, thus saving time and money in the long run.
