Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Massachusetts

Musician death

If a musician dies with no blood ties, who owns the rights to their music? Would their record company have any rights, or would everything go to the state?

Re: Musician death

If the decedent was not married at the time of his death and has no immediate family, then the next step is to conduct a geneological search for more distant relatives. The estate does not "escheat" to the state unless there really are NO relatives out there.

The rights to the music would normally belong to the estate, not the record company; however, the record company might have conceivably have some sort of claim against the estate as a creditor.
