Re: obtain asset and liability information.

Whoever the executor, and assuming the executor has been appointed by the court, the executor must file an inventory of all of the estate's assets with values as of the date of the death. This must be filed within 90 days of receiving the inventory form and the appointment of the executor.

A failure to file this inventory can be cured by an action to compel the filing of an inventory.

Re: obtain will info

The Executor of an estate must file an inventory with the court. Any transactions including payment of expenses must be disclosed to and approved by the court. As a beneficiary, you should get a copy of the inventory and the disbursements.

Usually attorneys are not the actual executor but are the one's who prepare the documents for the executor or assist them in so doing.
