Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Massachusetts

Stepmother's estate

My stepmom of 30 yrs. passed in late Jan. She and my dad sold their homes and bought one together. I was told I would inherit half the value of that house when they were both gone, but my stepsister has told me that I was bequeathed a small sum of money instead. Do I have grounds to contest the will and receive what I was verbally promised?

Re: Stepmother's estate

It depends when the Will was written and if you can show undue influence.

I suggest you contact an attorney with all the relevant facts and a copy of the Will to evaluate your claims against the estate.

For instance, when was this promise made and by whom?

Did you do something for your step-mother based on this promise?

Please feel free to contact me if you have more questions.

99% of the time, verbal promises mean nothing.

Whether you have grounds to contest the will depends on the circumstances surrounding when the will was signed.

Seeing the will is also a good indicator of what you were bequested.

If you have more specific information, I can provide a more specific answer; so please contact me.
