If I did not submit a written response to an eviction notice during the time period allotted, do I automatically lose the case?

You should speak with an attorney as quickly as possible. As you know, eviction cases move very quickly. If you receive a valid notice to quit, and you do not leave the premises as directed, the landlord has the right to commence eviction proceedings against you in Court. You should receive paperwork indicating a hearing date. Your "answer" is due on the Monday immediately before your eviction hearing.

These cases are complicated, and having an attorney can buy you weeks or months of time and strengthen your bargaining position.
