Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Massachusetts

How do you transfer a car title when the owner is deceased? I have a death certificate but no letter of administration or court order. There is no spouse or will, just a sister of the deceased who is handling everything and would like to give the car to another family member.

You need to probate the estate. If there are minimal assets, you can do a simplfied administration. You first need to make a list of all assets in the name of the deceased so you can certify to the court the total value and nature of the assets. You can get the forms from the probate court in your county or on-line at the probate court web site.
