transfer of home ownership - before nursing home takes over

My 93 yr old Aunt who lives downstairs, owns her 2family home. Health is not good but my family wants to keep her out of nsg.home. Currently she is getting 24hr care. My mother is the executor of my Aunt's estate. Also, my mother's name is on her bank books and checking account. We don't want to lose the house to any nsg.home. especially where I have lived on the 2nd floor for 15 yrs. What can we do to avoid this if we do, in fact, have to put my Aunt in a nsg. home??? Since my mother's name is on her bank related info but not the deed can a nsg. home take all this money or only half if she has to go to a nsg.home? What can we do about this now??? Is it too late??

Re: transfer of home ownership - before nursing home takes over

What city or town is this house is in?

You need to discuss this with an estate planning or an elder law attorney, and expect to spend half an hour to an hour on it. I don't think you're going to get a quickie answer, unfortunately.

If you wish to write to me more of the details -- the precise health status and prognosis, dollar figures involved (value of home, accounts, etc.), and what documents have already been established for your grandmother, I may be able to take a crack at giving you some of the basics but you will still need a lawyer to make an difference (so maybe you might as well go hire one from the start). If you tell me where the house is, I can probably refer you to the right person or persons, but you do need a specialist.
