Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Massachusetts
Is it true that all wills and last testaments, including the deceased's
bequests, must be filed with the local probate court? A former employer
of mine left me a bequest in her will. I was mailed a sum of money (check)
but am not being allowed to see the hardcopy of the bequest. A
lawyer has told me all bequests are pirvate and that they do not have to
be filed with the probate court here (Cambridge MA). Is this true? Should I take, on faith,
the amount that I was sent without proof that it is
the amount that was left me? Many thanks!

If a Will was filed in Probate Court, it then becomes a public document, which you can view at the probate court where it is filed, if the attorney still refuses to send you a copy. Retain an attorney, if necessary, to assist you. Good Luck!
