My mother made out a will 30 years ago and gave it to me.

Over the years I misplaced it and want to know the following.

The attorney that made the will if he sold his law pratice what happend to the will and if he didn't sell his practiced but passed away is that will on file with the city or town and can I get a copy of it?

Please let me know.

Wills are not recorded so you would either have to contact the attorney who drafted the will or locate your copy. Typically, there is only one original of a will which is either held by the attorney or the person drafting the will. The only other way if you cannot locate the attorney is to take out an ad in a lawyers newspaper to locate someone who may have a copy of the will (i.e., if the drafting attorney sold his practice). As a practical note, most people update their will regularly so you may want to see if your mother executed a more recent will or amended the will.
