one year wait

my mother passed away in June has no outstanding bills...Why do i have to wait one year to collect my inheritence? Is there away around this.

There is a limitation period at law that sets this standard.

The executor can once he or she determines the likelihood of claims can make a partial distribution with the courts approval. The Executor should keep a reasonable reserve and then close the estate after one year.
