Legal Question in Family Law in Mexico
Do I have U.S. legal rights
I am a U.S. citizen and married a Mexican over 10 years ago in Mexcio. I also had a religious ceremony in NY. Does the NY religous ceremony hold any bearing in the U.S. --- Do I have any U.S. legal rights if divorcing with alimony and/or child custody? or do I have to follow Mexican law only?

Re: Do I have U.S. legal rights
Religious ceremony does not have any validity under Mexican Laws. The civil marriage under the Mexican provisions (before a judge) is the only form to get the married status before Mexican authorities. You can follow the US procedure before an American Court, but they will request the Mexican documents in Mexico through the respective legal media. It is a long process.

I need to know where you are now.
If you are in NY you can assert rights. [email protected]
