Re: Bankruptcy and student loans
While most debts are dischargeable in bankruptcy, educational loans guaranteed by the U. S. government are generally not discharged by a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy. However, they may be dischargeable if the court finds that paying off the loan will impose an undue hardship on the debtor and his or her dependents.
Dedspite the general non-dischargeablity of student loans, many people find that if they file bankruptcy and get rid of their other obligations, the student loans are no longer a problem to pay.
