Re: Bankruptcy and taxes

IRS debt is NON-dischargeable in a bankruptcy. However, if they are not providing for a payment plan you can live with, then you may be able to pay off the amount through a Chapter 13 bankruptcy from 36 to 60 months. Also, filing for bankruptcy may relieve you of the burden of your other dischargable debts, thereby allowing you to focus on your tax debt.

Re: Bankruptcy and taxes

IRS debt is dischargable, in most cases, if the debt is more than 3 years from the time the taxes were filed. If the taxes were never filed, either by you or the IRS, and you just know that you have this kind of liability, then it would not be discharable.
