Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Michigan
how long before bankruptcy you filed is not on your credit
I filed for Bankruptcy in 1995, and it went through in Jan 1996. My house was not under it and have since then sold house etc, gotten married. My husband is not aware of any of this. We currently own 3 houses, which are on one mortgage. We want to purchase our mothers cottage on lake and want to just add to current mortgage. My question is: does my credit have to be disclosed on this or can we just remortage (as is in husbands name, mine on our Trust only) I don't want this to be brought up at all..how should I or can I handle it??? thanks for your help..

Re: how long before bankruptcy you filed is not on your credit
I bankruptcy can be reported for 10 years. It may actually not remain on all credit reports for that long, but I would expect that it would last at least seven years.
If you apply for credit for a mortgage or anything else it will show up on the credit report. I think that you might consider telling your new husband as sooner or later it will show up on his credit as well since spouses reports are usually reported together after they are married for some time. So the bad news might better come from you as opposed to a credit report.
Good luck to you.
