Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Michigan
marriage and debt
If I'm carrying substancial credit card debt and I get married, will my new spouse be responsible for my debt too?
That is, if I'm forced into bankruptcy will her assets be on the line too?

Re: marriage and debt
Your new spouse would not likely be responsible for pre-marriage debt unless she was a joint owner on the credit card account or was an authorized user who made significant purchases using your card.
If you file for bankruptcy prior to marriage, your fiance will not be affected unless you hold joint assets. If you file after marriage, her income would likely be included as household income which could end up costing you more.
