Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Michigan

Status of Limitation

My ex-husband & I filed bankruptcy 14 1/2 years ago. A co. called NCO is now sending me letters stating that I owe over $5000.00 principal and $3000.00 in interest from 1991. NCO brought debt from Chase who brought debt from a number of companys in 1997. NCO cannot tell me what co. or credit card this is for. They cannot provide me any information, or anything that I signed in 91. No one has ever tried to contact me or my ex regarding payment of any kind. Can they do this, or could this be a scam?

Re: Status of Limitation

It sounds like NCO is trying to collect a debt that either has been discharged in bankruptcy as you stated, or a debt that is so old the statute of limitations has expired. In either case, you are entitled to know who the original creditor is and a copy of a contract or billing statements. Call me for more information at the phone number listed on this website.
