Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Michigan

Vehicle Ownership

My sister purchased a car for me in her name. I paid for the car until paid off, which was in February 2007 over 15,000. I asked for the title twice, but instead she went into bankruptcy in late March and took the car into backruptcy with her. What can I do to get the car out of bankruptcy and in my name.

Re: Vehicle Ownership

You don't take items into bankruptcy with you. The bankruptcy code allows for certain exemptions for real and personal property. If you have concerns about whether she included the car as her asset in the bankruptcy, you can look at the bankruptcy filings since they are public records. You can also file a proof of claim, claiming your ownership interest in the vehicle.
