Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Michigan
workers comp settlements with bankruptcy
I have a workers comp. settlement coming from illinois when I lived there. I recently had a lien put against me in michigan for a car repo-d a few years back. I want to file for bankruptcy, I am about 10k dollars in debt total. Is my workers comp settlement able to be taken from the lien in another state? and will filing bankruptcy cause them to take my settlement, if I file before I get it or after I get it (the settlement) I am confused on this and would be filing bankruptcy in michigan and live in michigan now. all my debts I owe are from michigan, but the settlement comes from living one year in chicago, illinois. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: workers comp settlements with bankruptcy
I do not personally believe that $10,000 of debt justifies bankrutpcy. If you get a workers comp. settlement, it would most likely be used to pay your creditors. You might be better off trying to negotiate your debts with your settlement money.
