Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan
When your competitor goes under
I was wondering if there was any legal area that I need to be aware of. My nearest competitor had two locations and the one closest to my store went under, I spoke with his landlord and the landlord is willing to lease the windows of the shop to me to put up advertising for my store a mile down the road. I am wondering if this is something I should do or could this open me up to a lawsuit from that other person.

Re: When your competitor goes under
If there is no current lease between the competitor and the landlord, I don't see why the other person could sue you. If the store was still there and the terms of his lease said no competitors could have space within x square feet, then he could sue you. That would be the primary concern is whether there is currently an active lease between landlord and the competitor.
