Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan

contract

I had a contract with a company to work for them. In the contract it stated I had to work until october 27,2006 to receive half of my bonus and if I was terminated after october 27 by the company that I would receive both bonuses. The company didn't notify me that they were ending my contract until October 30, 2006 and now they say they only owe me half of the bonus. I have the e-mail from them dating October 30, 2006 is when they told me of termintation. What can I do?

Re: contract

If your bonus is worth the cost of hiring an attorney, you can sue them for breach of contract.

Re: contract

How much money are you dealing with? Many times it is not worth the time and effort. However, if the amount is worth the time and effort; send them a demand letter (certified/return receipt) enclosing a copy of the contract and the e-mail correspondence. Give them a fixed period of time to respond. If they do not respond hire an attorney (if the amount is significant) and sue them. If the amount is less than $3000 small claims court, if between $3000 and $25,000 district court, and if over $25,000 circuit court. Good luck.
