Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan
Personal Liability in a Corporation or LLC
I am considering starting a small computer services business. Initially I will be the only person in the business, and I will be doing the business part time (in addition to my full-time job). I understand the sole proprietorship, and have have handled taxes in the past with a Schedule C. I am thinking of incorporating or forming a LLC. My main concern is protecting my personal assets from liability. I don't understand the types of protection that are covered with a corporation or LLC. I am not worried about protection from creditors, however need to understand more about liability for services provided. For example, if someone sued because they felt their business was negatively impacted as a result of computer services performed, does the corporation or LLC protect from this? I appreciate any direction you can provide.
Thanks.

Borders has a great selection of books on incorporating a business, and there is plenty of information available on Michigan government websites, as well as through the Small Business Administration.
