Pet ownership

I'm buying a pedigree cat from a cattery in Michigan. I live in Illinois.

The contract says :

''Cats or kittens may not be declawed, except with prior written permission of Peeps Cattery.''

Can the cattery effectually retain the right to disallow me the right to declaw the cat without their permission? Isn't that as if they are retaining some level of ownership of the cat by making me get permission from them before I make a decision about the care of the cat?

If you sign the contract, then you would be bound by its terms. However, I am unsure how the cattery could ensure you do not declaw the cat. This seems to be their concern in some circles that is inhumane to declaw a cat. Does the contract provide for damages if you declaw the cat?
