Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan
I recently hired a friend to paint for me. During the painting he knocked over a lamp which broke ($250) and also put a huge scratch in the middle of my 55" lcd TV. Also scratching the glass tv stand, and a few other mishaps. He wants to work off what he owes me to replace the tv. I owe him $300 for the painting. My question is if he works it off, approx. $1200 for a comparable tv replacement, does he get to keep the tv? I originally paid $2400. for the tv. Thank you, Cheryl

Yes, because you are getting a new TV from him. The TV you bought is used and has depreciated in value. Think in terms of an insurance claim. They only pay you the fair market value, which is for a used item.
