Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan
Severing relationship with wholesaler
I wish to sever my relationship with my wholesaler. I own a distributorship through this company. They retained $7500.00 which I paid them up front for future inventory purchases. The inventory is overpriced and is not selling. I have written the company and received patronizing phone calls in return. My last attempt at contacting them resulted in a certified letter being 'returned to sender'. I need help...do I need an attorney?

Re: Severing relationship with wholesaler
Your right to terminate the relationship and to receive a refund of the money you paid will depend upon the terms of your agreement with the wholesaler. I cannot tell from the inquiry whether the goods have been delivered to you. If they have, and if they are not of the quality as represented to you, then there might be a limit to the period of time within which to reject the goods.
In any event, if the wholesaler is not discussing the matter with you, then you should consult an attorney to determine your rights and what is necessary to protect them. You should be cautious about litigation of this matter, inasmuch as a $7,500.00 dispute likely will be overshadowed by a much larger attorney fee. An attorney might be able to assist you in getting the wholesaler to discuss settlement of the dispute.
This response is not intended to be legal advice, and it should not be considered to be legal advice. No attorney-client relationship is created as a result of this response.
