Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan
I would like to start a boat rental business on the lake near my home,as there is a state park on this lake with no way for campers to go fishing. My thought was I would put an advertisement on the bulletin board at the park, interested persons would call me and I would meet them at the city boat launch and send them off for the day, returning to get the boat at a predetermined time and haul the boat back home. What issue do you see, would there be big legal issues to resolve, could I have them sign a waiver releasing me of liability while they use it, do I need millions of dollars of insurance? Any advice would be appreciated.

Having insurance is always advised. What if the renter killed someone with the boat? They would certainly be coming after you. A release can often be thrown out, so yes, insurance should be obtained. Kliszlaw.com. Tim Klisz
As a Franchise Attorney I agree with the other attorney answer. Waivers won't hold up and insurance is your best . . . insurance. Also, you would need permission to post the ad on the park bulletin board, which would be problematic. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
