Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Michigan
First Amendment Question
At school some people had signs on their shirts with ''end racism'' on them and the principle had all of the signs removed threatening them with insubordination (a 1-3 day suspension) if they did not comply. Many people in the school and community feel that this was unjust and violates the students' rights to freedom of expression. Is there a way to penalize or petition against the principle? Thank you for your time.

Re: First Amendment Question
There is a great likelihood that the principal violated the first amendment allowing freedom of expression. I'd have to know more facts but it is a situation crying out for intervention by the American Civil Liberties Union. Perhaps you should contact them and see if they are interested in helping.
