Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Michigan

Deffamation of character and slander

My ex-employer fired me over a dispatchers mess up and now he is telling everyone that I was at fault. Also I have been told that he (the ex-employer) is going around telling everyone that I have been calling the police on all of his drivers. I have tried to get a loan to buy a semi-truck and he has slandered me to the company so I can not get the loan. Is there anything I can do?

Re: Deffamation of character and slander

What your former employer is doing is called "defamation" and is certainly actionable. That is, you can sue him for damages and to reestablish your good reputation.
