Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Michigan
My family leased a home in Michigan for one year beginning March 25th 2013. The lease expired on March 25th 2014. We are still living in the home and have continued to pay the lease as agreed on time every month. there is no damage to the property and everything has been maintained. On Dec 13th 2013 my youngest son was hit by a car and remains in the hospital with severe brain injury. I (mom) have been living between the hospital and home for the last 5 months. However we began looking for another home to lease in January 2014 that would accommodate my son with a brain injury per the medical requirements given for his at home care. For nearly 4 months we were unsuccessful to find a home to lease that would allow for modifications. Our auto insurance concurred that we would have to purchase a home. So we are in the process of trying to close by June 10th, 2014.
Since March of 2014 we had asked to extend (verbally) our stay in the home until June 1st. The owners of the home accepted our payment of the lease on April 25th for rent from April 25th to May 25th, and then handed us an eviction notice to vacate by May 25th. We asked to extend our stay until July 1 as we will be closing on a new home in June and will begin the moving out process. They (the landlords said they accepted a contract and deposit for a new family to move in June 1 and will begin the eviction process. We have a deposit which is being held by the homeowners. This could have been settled amicably but tuned into a nightmare for us. We cannot afford to move twice. Do we have any rights at all to stay until July 1?

You don't have a right to stay until July 1, but you have a compelling argument to stay or at least clog it up in the system until then. Hire a local attorney familiar with the landlord tenant system.
