racial exclusion

can a national company exclude certain races from a contest? for instance, say TNT television is having a poetry contest but you have to white to enter the contest. Is that illegal? (thay was hypothetical)

Although from a business stand point it would be a really stupid thing to do, a private company can exclude people on the basis of race. A few years ago Bob Jones University, a private college, had a policy that prohibited interracial dating that was upheld by the Supreme Court. They have, however, since changed their policy against interracial dating. Constitutional prohibitions against race based exclusions are for 'state actors'.
