What do i do?

i was recently discharged from my job. the manager i spoke with said it was because i had a felony on my record. last i knew that was not legal. i have a friend that works there also. she is a manager there too. she talked to the manager that fired me and she said it was because i was a re-hire and i wasnt supposed to be hired in the first place. and tried to cover by saying it wasnt because i have a felony. but there are at least three other rehires working there currently. one of the rehires is the husband of the manager that fired me. i dont know what to do. any advice you can give me would really help out. thanks.

The question you seem to be asking is "why was I fired and not the other re-hires?"

So, one thing you have to ask yourself is what is the difference between you. The husband of the manager,--does he have a felony conviction? Did you inform your job of the felony conviction before you were hired? Surely, you can't expect them to keep you if a higher ranking employee's spouse is a choice. There's no law against nepotism that I know of, it's usually just company policy. Is there a company policy against nepotism? These are things you need to find out, without making too much noise. Did you have seniority over the others? Those questions need to be answered before you consider legal action.

These aren't just idle questions, they are "defense" to legal action which can destroy your case if the answers aren't in your favor.

Usually employers can hire/fire at will, so unless there is a legislatively-recognized reason why they can't fire you, then you'll be best off looking for a new job and getting the best written recommendation from them that you can.

If you feel that you have been improperly fired, then your first stop must be the nearest EEOC. They can fill you in on your options.
