Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Michigan

I was recently living with my step-father and we had four pets, ( three cats and one dog). He has a bad temper with animals and just doesn't have the patience for them. He obtained the dog last year as a Christmas present from my mother, however he moved to Colorado later that year and couldn't take care of the dog and he told me I could keep her, he moved back three months later and said he had never said that but he told my mother that he did. I have taken care of this dog for the year and a half that she's been with us. He gets jealous because the dog comes to me more then she does him. After he moved back he has abused the animals, my cat and the dog especially. I have already called Animal Rescue to help with the abuse on the animals in the home. He wouldn't let me take the dog or one of the cats when I moved out, so I was wondering what I had to do to get my dog and cat back from him?

You need to keep contacting the local Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. If you really want to take these animals, AND you can afford to keep them, contact me. I will look at your case and either help you to retrieve the animals or get them into a protected facility. Sometimes intervention by an attorney has a way of getting folks like your step-father to do the right thing.
