Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Michigan
Renter rights
I've been renting a house for 2 months, My landlord called and said that her son is moveing back in state and that she wants the housr back for him.
my lease is a month to month lease and I asked her how long do I have to find a place (was told 30 days)
I understand that its her house and she has that right but what about all the time I put into changing over utilitys, mail renting a truck to move in, ect...
is there anything that I can do?
The rent has been on time and no part of the lease has been broken.
thanks

Re: Renter rights
Unfortunately, in a month-to-month tennancy your lease is good for only 30 days. So, your landlord is legally correct in giving you 30 days notice to move, and does not owe you for your time and/or effort in getting utilities changed, etc.
If you wish greater protection in the future you must have a longer lease. 6 months is common, 12 months even more so. And, a lease must be in writing - you can get a generic form at your local business supply store.
