Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Michigan

shoplifting

When my son was 14 he was caught shoplifting. The amount was a little over $100. He did everything that the court referee required. When we went for the final hearing the referee told both of us that his file would be esponged.He is now 18 and going into the Air Force. When the A.F. did a background check they found his records within the court system and was sent all of the information on what he had done. According to the Sargent they have alot of paperwork on my son. I thought that esponged meant that everything(papers etc.) where gone. nowhere to be found. How can anybody get this information if the information is not supossed to be there. Please clear this up for me. What does esponge really mean. Thank you,

Re: shoplifting

You have to ask for a return of the prints, etc. Then once it is granted, you need a court order. That order must then be served on appropriate agencies, like police, etc. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
