Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Michigan

Can I sue for being assaulted?

I was laying down in a friends room and she came to bed and another individual followed so I got up and stopped him from coming in the room and asked what he thought he was doing following her and we broke out in a fight. This is her house and she told me she asked him to leave. He threw the first punch. I ended up with 17 stitches, have no medical insurance, and lost 3 days of work. He should be arrested tomorrow they told me. Will I be able to sue for the expenses I'm out? Would I be able to sue for more? It takes me 20 minutes to eat a piece of bread.

Re: Can I sue for being assaulted?

Yes, you can sue. People who commit acts like that should be sued. Also, the guy cannot go bankrupt because it was an intentional act. Is the guy collectible? The judge in the criminal action may make him pay the medical expenses as a condition of probation or as part of a sentence. William S. Stern 248-353-9400
