Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Michigan
Terms?
I was reading 'case details' at another website about a case. There were some words that I'm not familiar with. Could you please help?
''This OTHER case is a civil action for NON-MONETARY RELIEF. The court considers this case to be an EXPEDITED case.''
''THE FILING OF AN ORDER TO SHOW CAUSE and was assigned to ORDER TO SHOW CAUSE PART''
Thank you so much,
Chloe

Re: Terms?
1. "Non-monetary relief" means something other than money is being asked for, perhaps an order requiring someone to perform some act.
2. "Expedited" means it will be heard quickly, moved ahead of cases filed before it, possibly because great harm would result from a delay in hearing the case.
3. "Order to show cause" means someone is required to come to court and explain why they did or did not do something they were previously ordered by the court to do or not do.
4. Certain types of cases are assigned to certain divisions, sometimes called "parts," so this phrase indicates this non-monetary expedited case was assigned to the court division which normally handles such matters.
5. You're welcome, Chloe
