Legal Question in Technology Law in Michigan

Can I use there names without their agreements?

Dear Sir,

I am planing to set up a web site which may use names of some restaurants or stores. Can I just get them from the yellow page without getting their agreements?

I don't know how Yahoo get those names and other information. Could you tell me?

Thanks,

Too vague. Use them how? If you imply that they are associated with your website, you will probably be infringing their trademarks and engaging in unfair competition for which you could be liable to them. If you are just linking to their site and making it clear they are not associated with you, then it is not likely to be an infringement and not likely to be of concern to them. Yahoo gets its names from the entities listed in it. It charges for certain services and the money is plenty to pay for other services, which in turn brings more visitors which brings in more ad revenue which....you get the picture.
