Legal Question in Technology Law in Michigan

How much personal info can be posted without your knowledge or consent?

I stumbled onto a genealogy website that has an online, publicly accessible database that lists quite a bit of information (birthdates, maiden names, previous marriages, etc.)about each family member, myself and my immediate family (all still living) included. The site is owned and run by a ''family association'' that has been incorporated and claims all information on the site is copyrighted to them. I was never contacted, had no knowledge of, and never gave consent for this ''association'' to use, or post any of my personal info. I requested that they remove my information and they angrily refused. Does this information fall under the domain of public record? Is it legal to post such information without knowledge and consent? This genealogy group may have noble intentions, but I worry what could be done with this info by someone who doesn't. And from a privacy standpoint, it's rather disconcerting. Thanks.

If they have information which is not of public record, then they may have invaded your privacy, but births and deaths are public records.
