Legal Question in Construction Law in Michigan

unlicensed builder

In May we signed a contract with a window company to replace our roof and apply siding and gutter. it took 2 months to get the roof done and still do not have siding done after excuse after excuse. I have now done some internet research and found that there was judgement against the company in 2004 and he has no license and I am assuming did not pull any permit either. I have contacted the person receiving judgement and she said she has not recovered any money, fees either. His license was expired from 2004 and revoked last monthe after the licensing bureau ordered fees and judgements paid. I am concerned if he even has insurance and wondering how to procede. He has more than cost of roof already. Can we cancell contract since it was deceptive anyway. Thanks

Re: unlicensed builder

You do not have to pay an unlicensed builder under some circumstances, under the regulated occupations statute. You should consult with an attorney, feel free to contact us.
