Legal Question in Consumer Law in Michigan

auto purchase-release from contract

I bought a car last night that I decided I don't want. I signed all papers but said I would return today and pay cash. I have the car. Can I return it? I had heard of a 3-day grace period.

You have not paid the consideration (cash) for the contract so as of today, you arguably have not entered a binding contract. You could tell them that you will not be accepting the offer and then not complete the sale through payment. They could try to take you to court, but it would cost extra money to them.

Re: auto purchase-release from contract

whether or not you have a grace period depends on the terms of your contract - the grace period doesn't apply to all types of contracts in Michigan.

However, even though you signed the contract, you have not completed the transaction by paying money, so technically you can revoke your acceptance.

They will try EVERYTHING to get you to go through it - threaten a lawsuit, money damages, etc., so be prepared. Tell them you already consulted with your lawyer and that you have a legal right not to pay for it and get out of the contract without facing any damages. Hold your ground.
