Legal Question in Consumer Law in Michigan

Cancellation of Membership Contracts

I had a business call me for about 3 months atleast once a week to come in for a sales promotion to join one of their memberships. So finally I did. After their sales promotion they presented 3 memberships. Prices were $5000.00 for the V.I.P. and $3000.00 for the bottom line. In exchange for attending their sales promotion they offered a $500.00 instant rebate if you signed up for one of their contracts. I told them twice that I wanted to think this over. But they were very pushy and offered me another $500.00 instant rebate for signing a contract. So being under pressure I signed up with their V.I.P. membership at a price tag of $2923.00. After doing some research I see that Michigan as a ''Gift Promotion Act''. I read it over and from the way that the section of law is worded it appears that this Business should be held accountable under this section of law. I contacted the Business and explained it to them and they pretty much told me ''It is what it is'' so enjoy your membership. After reading over the contract I see that they have lied and been decietful on the contract as well. This Business didn't even sign the contract. A sales associate just has her name printed on the contract. Any recourse? Do I have a valid case here?

Re: Cancellation of Membership Contracts

I would have to review the entire contract to determine if they violated the act, or any other Michigan law, such as by not having the requisite notice/language in there. Furthermore, how soon after you signed the contract did you attempt to cancel it, and did you put it in writing?

If you would like to schedule a meeting for me to review your documents and provide you with an opinion, and perhaps draft a letter to the business to cancel the contract and get most or all of your money back, please contact me to discuss further.

Thanks.
